Trek to Kodcahdadri Via Hidlumane Falls
Our homestay is hidden gem close to Sampekatte and it feels like home. Managed by an aged couple that greets you with a big smile on their face and you feel at home. And the food? Flavourful, home-made, authentic local foods that will get your adventure started right!
A fresh-up and good breakfast later, it is time to pack your belongings, tie your shoe laces, and be off the trail. It starts off as a soft stroll through a zigzagging route through the dense Western Ghats and then bursts into a secret little heaven - a large green pasture that is the best-kept secret. While walking past various paddy fields and rustic trails, you will eventually come across a small hut. This is a great spot to sit down and catch your breath, but don’t get too comfortable - the real challenge starts here.
The biggest highlight of the trek is Hidlumane Falls, a stunning row of seven waterfalls. While each level is an adventure with slippery rocks, flowing water, and the sound of nature surrounding you, the top rewards you with a breathtaking view of the main waterfall (almost 60 feet in height!). The cool water feels like nature’s reward, washing away all your tiredness. Remember to refill your bottles here before the trail gets windier.
Here on, everything gets steeper (literally). The climb ahead involves hopping over tangled tree roots and mossy rocks until you reach the first major peak. This spot gives you a beautiful place to rest and fuel up with some very needed food.
Following this, the trail splits and weaves back together before joining onto the jeep route leading to Kodachadri temple. Make a mental note of this point - it is your ride back down. But the final stretch is still left - the trail to the peak.
The path to Kodachadri peak will take you along a rocky ridge, with cliffs and sweeping views on both sides. At the top, you’ll find Sarvajna Peetha - a simple stone shrine where Adi Shankaracharya is believed to have once meditated. The sunset is your reward for enduring nature's test - take a breather while watching the sun dip into the Arabian Sea. The sky paints you a picture with hues you never knew existed – truly a reward no office desk could live up to.

Visit Devagange Temple & Savehaklu Dam
Wake up to a calm morning in the heart of the Western Ghats, freshen up, and enjoy a wholesome breakfast before heading out for the day’s exploration. The first stop is the serene Devagange Temple, a spiritually significant site nestled amidst dense forest cover near Kodachadri. This temple is associated with ancient legends and is believed to be connected to the origin of the sacred Sharavathi River. Surrounded by untouched greenery and flowing streams, the temple offers a peaceful atmosphere that perfectly blends nature with spirituality.
From here, continue towards the picturesque Savehaklu Reservoir, a hidden gem in Karnataka known for its tranquil waters and lush surroundings. Built as part of the Sharavathi Valley project, the reservoir today stands as a beautiful offbeat destination, offering panoramic views, birdlife sightings, and a quiet escape into nature away from crowded tourist spots. After soaking in these experiences, stop for a self-sponsored lunch at a local eatery—do note that options here are simple and limited, adding to the raw, authentic charm of the region.
Post lunch, begin your return journey to Bangalore, driving through scenic ghat roads and dense forests, carrying back memories of a day that perfectly combined history, nature, and soulful exploration.
